Where I’ve Been

I’ve had a few people ask me where I have been the past several months. Well work and side jobs have been consuming me. The projects that I have talked about earlier are coming along nicely with some newer ones so hopefully I will be getting them completed here sometime soon.

I am also working on a major update to the Firefox Guide to take it to Firefox2 and some other goodies!

If there is anything that I should include that I haven’t before please feel free to let me know. Contact info is in the sidebar.

Word of 2007

Having an MSN conversation with a good friend this afternoon he said that masticate is the new word of 2007. To me this word is sooo 2004 due to an old friend. I pointed out that pwnage is the word of 2007, he said it totally 2006. So now I have a call out;

What is the new word of 2007?

What was the word of 2006?

Comment it.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has a great safe new year!

Connected 24/7

Well about a month ago I got a Blackberry 8700c with Cingular. It rocks!! Feel free to send me an email on the address listed on the sidebar. Or ask me for my PIN if you want to chat!

I will be posting some Blackberry related articles in the coming weeks.

What Happend and an Update

I’ve received a few emails over the past week asking what happened to the site. This makes me feel good that people actually still have the link in their RSS reader! Well the post meta table in the MySQL database got corrupted for some reason that broke the main page of the site. RSS feeds still worked, as well as all my pages and archives were fully functioning. Well now the site is fixed, and fully functioning.

What’s next?

Well now I need to get myself back into the swing of blogging, this is hard let me tell you. Recently I’ve been so busy with work I haven’t read Digg in months! I will be changing the site around over the next few weeks to accommodate some new ideas and get rid of some things that no longer belong.

I want to thank everyone who has stuck with me for the HUGE downtime I suffered.

Motivation

When working I often feel that sometimes I can’t get motivated. The Retrospector has written a great list on how to keep a geek motivated, I can’t agree more with the list.

1. Geeks are curious. Let them feed their desire to learn things

2. Geeks like to be self-sustaining. Let them figure things out on their own.

3. Geeks are creative even if they don’t know it. Give them a chance.

4. Geeks need tools, good ones. Give them more than they need.

5. Private, yet collaborative. Geeks need to be left alone, but not too alone.

6. Free stuff. T-shirts, food, desktop widgets, whatever.

7. Control

8. Geeks need recognition

9. Freedom

10. Compensation - Saved this for last, but geeks gotta live too

Airports

This afternoon I had to take my father to the airport. I made a few interesting observations that still have my wondering. First off there was a dude carrying a level around with his luggage, what the hell would he need that for? The next thing was the display case of items that you can’t take on the plane with you. Why the hell would someone try to carry on a chainsaw? Or how about an oil filter? Makes me wonder.

Search Correction

Search results for “24″

Did you mean: 4400

Seriously where the hell did it get 4400 from 24?

xB First Thoughts

Well I’ve had my 2006 xB sense last Friday and I am quite pleased. It is a change from my old daily driver, a 2001 Dodge Dakota, but a good change. I was impressed with the good mileage; I did lots of town driving, driving up to and around Olympia, and finally drove to Vancouver to visit my sister. All of that and I got 31mpg. I might also note I have a lead foot so I was quite pleased with the results. Currently as of this morning I have somewhere around 600 miles on the toaster, it has 250 or so when I picked it up so the rest is me.

Everyone that has seen the “toaster” is quite impressed with the interior room, as I am. When I first was driving the toaster it felt like a delivery van, it is somewhat past that point and is getting more comfortable to drive.

Exterior needs on this are a must. I know I still haven’t gotten pictures up but I promise tonight I will post some. It is bagging to have the front windows tinted and it really needs wheels. I am still debating on what wheels to put on it.

Overall I am quite pleased with this car and it is tons of fun to drive! Well I need to get back to work I’ll post more later.

The Toaster

Well I have a new vehicle. A 2006 Scion xB. I still have my truck and my car this is just another addition to my family of cars. I will post some pictures later on after I was the monster. I went to Vancouver, WA yesterday to visit my sister and got back this morning so it needs a bath.

Short Week

These 3 day weeks are a killer. Wednesday feeling like Monday….etc. Seems like I’ll never catch up before Friday. Anyway I’m alive…and try to post some of write ups I’ve been working on. Opera and Firefox comparison has really been eating up my time, but in a very good way.

Happy 4th!

I hope everyone has a great and safe 4th!

Neophilia

After many months of searching I have discovered I am a Neophiliac. Don’t worry this is not as bad as it sounds. According to the Japanese and Wikipedia a neophiciac is an individual who is unusually accepting of new things and excited by novelty. I discovered this after reading about a new disease the Japanease discovered and talking to a friend about my iPod Video that I’ve used 3 times in 3 months. And that is specifically why I sold my iPod Mini (I miss it very much by the way). Maybe this explains why I try to have cool phones, network toys, and other random geek toys. This is too funny.

Opera 9

Well Opera 9 is out. I am starting to take it for a test drive. Heart be still I am breaking away from my lovely Firefox and trying Opera. Back in April the Firefox Guide got Slashdotted a got a few comments from people that said Opera does everything that Firefox and the extensions I listed. So with this new version I am going to find out. Stay tuned for a detailed report.
