Lost on the Web 2.0

What is Web 2.0? In reading this article, they mention MySpace as a Web 2.0 site, but if you search around Digg most “Web 2.0″ sites are AJAX b a s e d monsters. So what is “Web 2.0″ exactly? Is it social networking, XHTML, AJAX, or just a fancy name? Or my personal opinion, a way to make people click on the link called “My 2.0 Site!”

Vi Survival Guide

I hate Vi. I have never been able to understand it. If you aren’t a geek you are probably wondering right now what Vi is. Vi is a console text editor for Unix. When I first got my web server about four years ago I tried Vi and never understood it, many friends tried to teach me with no luck. I instead used Pico, and then graduated to Nano. Well after spending countless times Googling trying to find a decent guide for Vi I found one. This thing is awesome; it tells you everything you could ever need to know about it. Check it out!

Power User Application Guide

Well I’ve been busy the past few days. I created a Power User Application Guide, it basically highlights most applications I find useful. If you have a favorite application that you don’t see on the list drop me a comment and let me know.

I’ve also updated the About page, Links, and the Firefox Guide.

Firefox Myths

Okay…So the other day I got a comment saying I should check out this site. I always read every comment I get, if there is a question I’ll answer it, or a website I’ll check it out. I feel if someone spend the time to write a comment I can spend the time to at least pay attention to it. Speaking of that thanks everyone for the feedback on my Firefox Guide. Anyway back to this “site” thingy. This site is all about Firefox Myths. Well I think this site is crap. Full of outdated junk and is a plot to make Firefox look bad. Firefox is not the 100% fix all…But I feel it’s a hell of a lot better than Internet Exploder. You be the judge.

Web Developer’s Handbook

http://www.alvit.de/handbook/

That site is holy. Awesome stuff there for web designers. Even stuff that would help people with MySpace. Gasp!! CSS all the way!

Firefox 1.7

Well the time has come once again for me to announce more changes to the Firefox Guide.

Added: MR Tech Local Install, this extension kicks because it allows you to manage extensions and themes locally. I also updated the Hacks and Keyboard Shortcuts.

I am going to add more hacks and some general information later on tonight. Enjoy.

Also Mozilla released Firefox 1.5.0.3 today.

/.

Well Sunday morning at about 11 we got Slashdotted. After taking the server to a crawl most of the day the server finally had enough. I rebooted the server this morning and later on this afternoon traffic subsided to a level the server could keep up with. I want to thank everyone for their great comments on my Firefox Guide. And I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Wordpress Rocks Officially

The past couple of days because it was a four day weekend from school, normal weekend from work, but I had some extra time to continue working on the never ending project. This site. After working on several pages and doing the necessary research behind them I realized how powerful Wordpress really is. I’ve done tons of stuff with this software that I didn’t know I could do before…but in working on the links page, and the Firefox Guide I discovered I could run almost 90% of the page through the links manager in Wordpress. Now how uber cool is that! I did quite a bit of reading on tags for the links manager and other plug-ins…It’s quite amazing what a user can do with that system. I have to say that I’m impressed. Anymore after using tons of web based software over the years it takes a lot to get me all jazzed…well it happened again. This week I should be finishing the links area, organize the sidebar, add some awesome RSS feeds to the site, and finally a cool new thingy I am working on!

A New World

I’ve been a geek for as long as I can remember. I did my first website when I was in 8th grade. Holy crap that was long ago. I remember when just html was cool. That summer I perfected my skills and was trying all kinds of different stuff. Then a guy I met in high school my frosh year, Caleb, showed me how to do one little thing in flash that rocketed me on my journey. Well my jr year I basically got bored with websites and just slacked off. Well…over the past year, sense I started this site (yes that was back when I was using Movable Type) I started getting back into website design. And recently I’ve gotten swamped with customer jobs. I’ve been learning and catching up on all this new technology. CSS oh my has it grown, and all the cool stuff you can do with flash these days. I should post my old flash work sometime, someday. I am not a very creative person when it comes to web design, therefore the past few weeks I’ve been surfing and reading and get some ideas. Tonight while doing my nightly digg I came across a great site. If you are remotely interested in website design and development check this site out. It’s totally worth it and has anything you could possibly need.

MySpace

I am going to start this off by saying I really don’t like MySpace. But I’m a geek, so I have it, and I’ll leave it at that. I know someone is going to ask me this, so here is my reasoning behind it. This is also similar to my reasoning for just not using Live Journal. I have my own server, I design websites, and finally I a geek as I stated above. So why not do it myself, I’m in full control, and I can do more. So that might help…anyway on to the real point of this post…

While browsing my new favorite site (The rest of my favorite sites will soon be up in my links section that I am working on. Might I also mention I feel like its the 90’s again because I have actually been surfing the net. What’s wrong with me?) digg.com I came across this article. It is about the people the own/run MySpace. Very very interesting if you ask me. Please post your comments on this I am curious what y’all think.

Many More Updates

This year is going to be a great one! I can already tell, one bad thing I can foresee is going to be a massive lack of time. I suppose that is to be expected. Now to news and updates in my life. If anyone hasn’t noticed I’ve been very very very………..very busy. But there are many reasons for it!

Starting off this site (willlangford.com) is undergoing massive changes. I have already skinned the site and made it look basically how I want it to look. I have content pages I am working on over the next few weeks, sooner hopefully though. I have migrated the gallery over to Gallery 2. Check it out here: http://willlangford.com/gallery2. As soon as I finish the content pages I will post links to them. First one being my personal Firefox guide.

I have added another totally different area to the site. Similar to my Northwest Toy Run Gallery (http://nwtoyrun.willlangford.com). The new site is digg.willlangford.com. The reasoning behind this site is below, this is what I posted on the site itself.

So I’m starting off the New Year with many additions to may main site (http://willlangford.com). This blog is just another part of the site. I find all kinds of interesting and random amounts of info on the web. I would love to post them all on my main site, but then I would be cluttering that site all to hell and back. So with the New Year I decided to start a sub blog that I would update with just random bits of news, links, and any other bit of randomness I can find. Please enjoy yourself and feel free to comment!, and also please check the will langford dot com homepage for many updates to come.

Hopefully that kind of explains itself.

Now to my web development life, I have several ongoing projects right now that are taking a ton of my time. Not to mention my day job. Once I start getting these sites checked off the list I’ll post links to them for reader review.

Well it’s getting late and I need to finish some other work, so I will finish this little adventure in a little while.

Instant CSS

This is what I would call “Freaking Tight,”

http://typetester.maratz.com/ - Generates CSS on the fly!

Many Updates

I’m back from the dead. School is over, but work is not. This life, and it goes on…but I finally have time to update the blog and the site. I am bringing it back. I have redesigned the site and added many new items. Over the next few days or weeks there will be many more changes to come. Enjoy.
